All week long we learned about apples. We took a virtual field trip to the Apple Orchard at Altapass in Spruce Pines, NC. We created a KWL chart about apples and we even did a little apple tasting. You guys knew so much about apples, but you also had a lot of good questions. I was impressed by your thinking. For this weeks blog, I'd like for you to share something you already knew about apples, one thing you learned through our lessons and then I want you to "research" one question you might still have and share the answer with me. I have attached a video about apples here that you can chose to watch and see if your question is answered within it or you can "google" your question on your own. I can't wait to read your posts and discover more about apples! |

Last week we studied apples, and I already knew that apples came in several different colors like red, yellow, and green. I learned that apples have different taste, some are sweet and some are bitter or sour. One question that I have is this, can you grow apples from the seeds that came from the apple that I just ate, and it be the exact same type of apple? The answer is no because apples are genetically grown. They are grown through a process called grafting, and each tree produces blooms, cross pollinates, and then apples appear. Interesting process.

I already knew that the seeds are star-shaped inside the apple. You can see it if you cut the apple the right way.

I already knew there were different colors of apples. One thing I learned that apples drop when it is almost winter time. One question I have is where do apples get their taste? Apples get their tastes from their chemicals. Different kinds of apples have different kinds of chemicals in them.

Flip! Here your child will have an opportunity to respond to a question that connects to the learning happening in our classroom. This is a great way to get your child reflecting about their classroom experiences and sharing all the great things happening with you. It also helps me reflect too! Please encourage them to take part in this activity! They will earn a special treat when they do. Archives
