This week we talked about adjectives which are describing words. We brainstormed a list of adjectives together and then we listened to the story Go Away Big Green Monster! The story had some great describing words inside it. On Friday you all made your very own Big Green Monster... share with me at least two sentences that describe your monster. Make sure you use some good adjectives! I cannot wait to read your posts!

Last week we learned about Johnny Appleseed through an interactive lesson, story, video, and more. In each of these we noticed that parts of the story s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d the truth. We decided that some parts were possible and could really happen while other parts were impossible! Give me an example... Tell me one thing you heard that could be true and one thing that stretched the truth! I can't wait to read your posts! Last week we talked about retelling or summarizing stories. We talked about how all stories have a beginning, middle, and an end. In the middle of the story there are several events that occur. We also talked about when you summarize a story you share the important parts in your own words. Can you practice retelling/summarizing a story that you've read. It can be a story you read at school or at home. Tell me about the characters, the setting, the problem and solution. Make sure you think about the beginning, middle, and end! Tell the important parts... I can't wait to read about your story! Last week we heard three different versions of Jack and the Beanstalk. We got to see how each story had similar elements such as the characters, setting, and problem; however, in each one there were several differences. Being able to "create" is a part of critical thinking and Bloom's Taxonomy. Create a different ending from the ones your hear last week to Jack and the Beanstalk. Be creative!!! I know you can do it! I can't wait to hear your version of this great folktale! This week we talked about cause and effect. In the story Pigs in a Rig there were several "cause and effect" events that happened. For example: because the rig hit a bump in the road, one of the pigs fell off the truck and into the mud (effect). Think of some other events that focus on "cause and effect". It can be something from the story, TV, or an event that happend to you! Let me know the cause and what the effect was! I can't wait to read your posts! |
Flip! Here your child will have an opportunity to respond to a question that connects to the learning happening in our classroom. This is a great way to get your child reflecting about their classroom experiences and sharing all the great things happening with you. It also helps me reflect too! Please encourage them to take part in this activity! They will earn a special treat when they do. Archives
